Tony Dowd, Principal, New Horizon Capital - Bio

Tony Dowd is the principal of New Horizon Capital (www.newhorizoncapital.co.nz) a boutique investment bank offering a unique, personalised range of services.

New Horizon Capital services include capital raising and advisory services (including M&A, MBO, MBI, Accelerated Growth Planning, Succession and Exit Planning through to capital restructuring and business valuations). The company is dynamic, responsive and as results focused as the commercial clients and partners that it will work with.

During successful careers at New Zealand Post and Carter Holt Harvey, Tony has developed a wide appreciation of the issues facing companies when they want to accelerate their growth through product or market extension.

Tony has demonstrated a high degree of skill at growing the top line profitably for the businesses that he has worked for or been responsible for. His ability to clearly identify not only the opportunity but also the path to execution and then execute on the plan is a rare capability.

During his time at Carter Holt Harvey Tony was instrumental in managing the CHH New Ventures, Business Acceleration business unit. This saw Tony act on the board of a number of investments including Chairman for IC Solutions Ltd. During this period Tony gained extensive experience in maximising value from investments in a wide range of industries using his skills in advising small to medium enterprises (SME’s) about how to build business growth using venture capital and wealth / value management plans. Having completed many major transactions, Tony possesses considerable financial acumen in bringing together deals whether through management buy-outs, takeovers, raising debt or other forms of capital raising to drive growth

Tony has owned and operated a food company primarily exporting to Asia . He was also the marketing and innovation manager for Carter Holt Harvey Packaging and was instrumental in developing new, innovative products for a range of food industry sectors. Accordingly he has been at the forefront of finding innovative ways to freight meat, fish, horticultural, dairy and beverage products to local and international markets.

Tony also has extensive experience in both the national and international marketplace including the US, Asia, and Australasia .

With an Executive MBA / BSc from Massey University and an Industrial Marketing diploma from the University of NSW , Tony has an effective communication style with the ability to establish successful long-term business relationships with senior management.

Tony has also completed a Certificate of Venture Capital from the Australian Venture Capital Association and is a member of the New Zealand Venture Capital Association.
